چکیده
Abstract In this work, a methodology to determine the absorbed dose rate water distribution from electronic brachytherapy (eBT) units is suggested. It involves measuring directly in full scatter tank with small active detectors whose energy response at low X-ray photon energies have been previously characterized. Dose distributions of an INTRABEAM PRS 500 system two configurations — bare needle and spherical applicator 40 mm diameter were measured using Exradin A26 ionization chamber PTW 60019 microDiamond detector. Comparison of measured and Monte Carlo calculated dose distributions from “circular collimators” for radiosurgical beams
Background: Stereotactic radiosurgery is an important clinical tool for the treatment of small lesions in the brain, including benign conditions, malignant and localized metastatic tumors. A dosimetry study was performed for Elekta ‘Synergy S ’ as a dedicated Stereotactic radiosurgery unit, capable of generating circular radiation fields with diameters of 1-5 cm at isocentre using the BEAM/EGS4...
متن کاملDose Distributions of an 192Ir Brachytherapy Source in Different Media
This study used MCNPX code to investigate the brachytherapy (192)Ir dose distributions in water, bone, and lung tissue and performed radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter measurements to verify the obtained MCNPX results. The results showed that the dose-rate constant, radial dose function, and anisotropy function in water were highly consistent with data in the literature. However, the lung do...
متن کاملCommissioning and periodic tests of the Esteya® electronic brachytherapy system
A new electronic brachytherapy unit from Elekta, called Esteya(®), has recently been introduced to the market. As a part of the standards in radiation oncology, an acceptance testing and commissioning must be performed prior to treatment of the first patient. In addition, a quality assurance program should be implemented. A complete commissioning and periodic testing of the Esteya(®) device usi...
متن کاملMeasurement verification of dose distributions in pulsed-dose rate brachytherapy in breast cancer.
AIM The aim of the study was to verify the dose distribution optimisation method in pulsed brachytherapy. BACKGROUND The pulsed-dose rate brachytherapy is a very important method of breast tumour treatment using a standard brachytheraphy equipment. The appropriate dose distribution round an implant is an important issue in treatment planning. Advanced computer systems of treatment planning ar...
متن کاملOptimization of HDR brachytherapy dose distributions using linear programming with penalty costs.
Prostate cancer is increasingly treated with high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, a type of radiotherapy in which a radioactive source is guided through catheters temporarily implanted in the prostate. Clinicians must set dwell times for the source inside the catheters so the resulting dose distribution minimizes deviation from dose prescriptions that conform to patient-specific anatomy. The pri...
